Decisions, Decisions

First dilemma of the morning: Have cheesecake for breakfast or my delicious protein shake?

Second dilemma: Shower, or put my hair back in a pony tail and pretend like I took a shower?

Third dilemma: Work out, or go to a play group with Ryley?

By the way, I made this cheesecake last night for our friends and I used splenda, and a mixture of fat free cream cheese and 1/3 less fat cream cheese. It was so good. Here is the recipe if anyone is interested. It is SUPER easy!!!

2 pkgs cream cheese (I wouldn't recommend using all fat free cream cheese...sometimes that tastes weird or mixes funny)

3/4 c sugar (can use splenda)

2 eggs

1 tsp. vanilla

2 tsp. lemon juice

Mix all together with a mixer and pour in to a graham cracker crust. Bake at 350 for approx. 20-30 minutes (until slightly brown on top). Top with cherry topping, or whatever you like.

OR, if you want to do individual cheese cakes, you put vanilla wafers in cupcake tins round side up, and then pour the mixture over them and bake for 18-20 minutes. These are great for little gatherings, baby showers, weddings, etc.

Summer Time

Today was one of those mornings. You know the mornings where you give your kids an ice cream cone before 10am because they are whining and you don't want to deal with it! Well, it was that kind of morning. Ryley had cereal and chips for breakfast. I feel like such a hypocrite. I try to eat healthy and work out, but I give her Pringles for breakfast! What is up with that? But like I said, sometimes I just don't want to deal with it all.
On Thursday we are driving to Montana to go see my parents. I am totally excited about it because my sister and her kids will be there. I am not, however, looking forward to the drive. It is only about 5 1/2 hours from here, but with a 2 year old in the car, 5 hours is like dog years...twice as long as normal time. I don't know what I am going to do. There are only so many snacks you can give a kid. AND our dvd player is broken so we are going to make do with our laptop. I hate packing. It takes me forever because I don't want to forget anything and I pack everything under the sun.
We will get home on Sunday and have one day before we are off to the mountains for a retreat with Scott's family! I just love the 4th of July. It is one of my favorite holidays. So I am totally looking forward to that as well. Scott's sister and her partner will be there and they haven't seen the baby yet. I am excited to see them and to go hiking, and boating, and reading a book by the water. Hopefully I will be able to relax a little since there will be Grandma there to help out with the kids.
By the way, if anyone has any suggestions on how to deal with kids on long trips, please let me know! What about cough syrup? Will that knock her our for a few hours?

Yummy

Every morning I have what I think is a really delicious protein shake with ground flax seed in it. So, the other day Ryley decided she wanted some. I gave her a tiny bit because I knew she wouldn't like it. Sure enough, she gave the "ewww" face and gave it back to me. So, it got me thinking, as adults do we train our taste buds to like things that aren't necessarily great, but we eat them anyway because they are healthy? Kids don't care if food is good for them or not. If it is gross, they won't eat it. They also don't know a thing about calories or know what a scale is.

No Whammies!!

So, yesterday morning I was feeding Kirye and I turned on the Game Show Network. Who knew something such as this existed! I couldn't believe that it was replaying game shows from when I was a kid. Remember Press Your Luck? I loved that game show. We would watch it everyday in the summer. It was so funny to watch it this morning because it was from the late 80's. So the women had the big shoulder pads and the featherd hair. The men had the huge glasses and feathered hair as well. And I love how the "big money" was like $4000, as compared to today's Deal or No Deal where $4000 would be a bummer! No Whammies, no whammies, STOP!!!
One of the other shows they were playing was Love Connection and Family Feud. I remember watching all of these when I was a kid. We would also watch Price is Right every morning in the summer.
So, what are your favorite game shows?

Random Thoughts

Here are just a few random things going on in my life:

Today I went to Costco and all the oldies were going crazy over Kirye. The absolute first thing everyone says when they see him is, "Look at all that hair!" It never varies from that, and it is always that exact wording. So, there was this older couple in line behind me and they came up to me and were like, oh my gosh, look at him, he is sooo cute. And then they proceeded to tell me about their kids and grandkids, and what they had for lunch, etc. But the funniest thing was, they made all of these people come over and see Kirye, mostly to look at how much hair he has. It was pretty funny and they were sweet.

I have been calling Kirye "princess" and "good girl" lately. I KNOW!! I catch myself everytime I do it, but it always slips out. I think because I have been so used to saying it to Ryley.

I think I am getting old. I have started turning on the captions when I watch tv. I feel so lame, but sometimes I just can't understand what people are saying and when I have the captions on I can read everything and make sure I don't miss out on a single word. Have you ever had someone next to you constantly say, what did they say, what did they say? It is annoying right? So, I finally turned on the captions so Scott wouldn't want to hurt me.

I LOVE our babysitter. She is so great with Ryley and is pretty much always available. There is just one thing I can't stand. She only lives a block away, but her mom gives her a RIDE!!! Okay, lazy! Everytime she comes over I think, hmmmm, maybe this time she will just walk over. BUT IT HAS NEVER HAPPENED. What in the world is happening that you can't walk a block!

SpaghettiO's and Toast

That is what I had for dinner (totally a loser, I don't want to cook tonight, dinner) while my husband was at P.F. Chang's!! Soooo not fair! I have to give him a little slack though since it was a business dinner, but come on....I get stuck at home with the kids while he is enjoying a heavenly Chinese bistro . I am just jealous. I told him to bring me back any of the leftovers. I am such a mooch. I would've told him to bring me back a piece of the Great Wall of Chocolate cake they have, but I am trying to cut back on such lusciousness so I can lose the baby weight.
Here is a short description: GREAT WALL OF CHOCOLATE Six layers of rich chocolate cake frosted with semi-sweet chocolate chips and served with raspberry sauce.
Oh, how I would LOVE a piece of that cake right now. It is di-vine! And if you have never had it, you have to try it. It is seriously one of the best restaurant desserts I have ever had!
P.S. I have never had spaghettios and toast together in my life! I randomly thought it up.

Why You Should Always Wash Your Veggies

I was at the grocery store yesterday and this woman was touching ALL of the cucumbers. I don't know why I was so grossed out by this. I see people doing it all the time, but for some reason this time it really bugged me. So, from now on, even if I don't feel like it, I am washing my fruits and veggies!!
Kirye had his 2 month check up yesterday. He is already 12 pounds and is in the 50th percentile for height and weight. He also has a little ear infection . I am so sad for him. He hasn't even been cranky though (he is not a cranky baby), but has wanted to be held a bit more than normal. Ryley didn't get her first infection until she was over a year old so I was suprised that he already had one.
Okay I have to go work out before I talk myself out of it.

Under Eye Miracle Cream

I just found this picture of Scott and I. It was taken at Christmas time, December 2002, before we had kids. At the time I considered our shepherd/lab mix my baby (no, those dogs are not shepherds or labs...they are my mother-in-laws pugs). How crazy is that? He is sooo much easier than a baby! Actually, Kirye is a really easy, laid back baby. I should say my dog is so much easier than my 21 month old. She is in that crazy, messy, hitting, tantrum stage right now and it is driving me insane!

I can't believe how rested we look in this picture. It is amazing how kids make the bags under your eyes suddenly appear 5 shades darker than normal. Have you ever seen that dark circle miracle eye cream that has the lady on the box with the black, football players, glare cutting grease cream, under her eyes. That is how I feel. When will I ever get some sleep?
On a side note, I went 8 weeks post pregnancy shopping today and found a few things; thank goodness! None of them, however, are the size I wanted. But hey, at least they fit and I can stop wearing my yoga pants all the time.
